End Date/Time:

Location:
University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire
Venue:
Clinical Sciences Building, University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire, Clifford Bridge Rd, Walsgr

Target Audience: All healthcare professionals and clinicians

Aims & Objectives: This study session aims to explore how “Scientific Method” underpins what are called “Research Methods” and we might consider could be considered as “Research” as applied in the clinical domain. Attendees will be shown how they may start to go further in developing their skills, understanding and knowledge of “Research Methods” to apply in their own clinical research.

Course Summary: The Facilitator will explore the broad range of “Research Methods” from the qualitative to the quantitative and briefly review how they may be applied in practice. He will explain how “Scientific Method” and hence “Research Methods” is underpinned by Statistics, thus linking this to the session “An Introductory Overview of Statistics”. He will explore the particular importance of the framing of research questions in forms which can be rigorously tested, whilst minimising the many forms of bias that can occur.

Following the two sessions ‘An Introductory Overview of Research Methods’ and ‘An Introductory Overview of Statistics’, we will be offering a one hour “Statistical Advice Clinic” which will be in the form of 4 pre-booked fifteen minute (maximum) one-to-one sessions with individual clinicians or healthcare professionals seeking some initial statistical advice on an existing or future clinical research project.  To book a slot in this Advice Clinic, please contact TrainingCRNWM_generic@uhb.nhs.uk
