Target Audience

The course is aimed at new Principal Investigators (within first 18 months or first few studies) and people interested in becoming a PI.


Aims and Objectives

  • Explore the three key elements for success in a PI leadership role: Engagement, Oversight and Communication
  • Describe the skills and behaviours required to be an effective PI
  • Understand that as a PI ‘You are not alone’, help and support is available

Course Summary

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the PI role and responsibilities including identifying a study, recruitment, oversight, managing to time and target and communication. It also highlights the support and resources available including an overview of the CRN West Midlands and the High Level Objectives. The course explores the PI role as a leader and incorporates some interactive activities.
